OPENING THOUGHTS: Laura Thomas delivers a top-notch Christian romantic suspense novel in The Final Word, book two of the Bitten By Betrayal Series. This was my first book written by this author and it did not disappoint! The pieces of this story came together seamlessly in a delightful blend of suspense, sweet romance, and inspirational themes.

ACTION/ADVENTURE: This exciting novel tells the story of a young woman trying to break free from the secrets of her past and start anew in England. Sophie Brooks is haunted by a possessive ex-boyfriend who seems to show up at all the worst moments. As Sophie begins to settle into her new rhythm, an unknown number keeps sending her threatening text messages. These messages increase in frequency, and she begins to notice an SUV following her wherever she goes. There's plenty of suspense to keep things interesting, and as the tension escalates toward the book's climax, it becomes hard to put this engaging story down!

ROMANCE: Despite the enemy's opposition, Sophie also has a chance at finding love. On her last day in Paris, a chance meeting ignites sparks between Sophie and Miles Morgan, a handsome opera singer with a secret past of his own. Sophie doesn't believe in love at first sight, but Miles is willing to prove her wrong in the most heart-warming pursuit ever! Miles is a gem and proves himself to Sophie throughout the trials she faces, making The Final Word an excellent blend of romance and suspense. The couple shares sweet kisses minimally described, but the emotions of the moment are felt in the simple expressions of the characters.

FAITH: In this novel, both main characters are Christians and each expresses their faith openly in dialogue and thought. While each is in a different place with God at the start of the novel, they find they share similar struggles and work together, encouraging one another in faith. The characters’ emotions and struggles were relatable. Watching them grow in their relationship as a couple and in their relationships with God provided a wholesome feel to the romance aspect of the novel.

FINAL THOUGHTS: The villains in this book add a few darker elements, including physical abuse in a relationship and mild violence, but the faith of the main characters anchor the story in hope. The author delivers a thought-provoking message about surrendering to God in every situation and trusting His plans for the future. As Sophie learns throughout the story, God has never abandoned her–He is guiding her through even the toughest challenges. This adult romance novel is well-paced and perfect for readers who enjoy Hallmark vibes with more substance, a dash of suspense, and feeling secure that everything will turn out alright in the end. Laura Thomas has done an excellent job with Sophie’s story and I look forward to continuing the series to see what’s in store for the other Brooks sisters!
